How to Practice During Theory
The best way to practice and keep the information fresh is to be practicing three times per day, preferably in the morning, afternoon, and evening. Find what works best with your daily schedule and try sticking with that. If you practice three one-hour sessions per day, it is better than doing one three-hour session per day. You are keeping the information fresh in your mind by coming back to it every six or so hours rather than having a 24-hour break in between each of your practice sessions.
Find which time of day you can do the class, which is an hour and a half, and that is one practice session. Then try to practice for 30 minutes to an hour in your other two sessions. For example, let's say I like doing the classes in the afternoon. I wake up and practice for 30 minutes of what I learned yesterday or last week as a review. Then during my lunchtime session, I do the next class. Before I go to bed, I practice for another 30 minutes or an hour of what I learned today and this week by going over the Overviews.
If you can only get in one other practice session besides the class, that is totally fine. Just try to find time in your day to practice for 30 minutes or an hour so that you aren't having those 24-hour breaks in between your practice sessions.
Practicing Tips For Theory
- Make sure you are focused during your practice sessions. You don't want to be distracted or mentally drained during your practice. Get in the zone!
- Clear your mind of everything except for whatever you are practicing.
- Be mindful of your posture and positioning. Make sure you feel comfortable. Don't be afraid to ask us questions on how your posture should be.
- Control your surroundings. Try to find a quiet place to practice. No TV, phone, kids, pets, etc.
- Don't rush through your learning. If you need to spend extra time on a section, do it. Theory is the foundation for your career. Learn it. Know it. Master it.
- Use your resources. Use the Overviews, Chapter Reviews, Recorded Classes, Eclipse Tutorials, and your instructors that are working reporters. Always feel free to communicate with us!
